Field Project

The brief for this project was the city of Cardiff! Not the most original brief but it allowed for a broad spectrum of ideas. After much consideration I decided to base my project on Llandaff Cathedral, in particular it’s Stained Glass Windows as I felt that generally in Cathedrals the windows create a really enchanting and peaceful atmosphere.

For one of my final pieces, I painted on panes of glass with glass paint to replicate the effect of the Stained Glass Windows that were in the Cathedral. I painted them with imagery from the Cathedral and projected light through them so that they reflected onto the wall. This was inspired by my manifesto project that I had done earlier that year. I really enjoyed using light effects as part of my art and I would like to do more with this in the future. I was pleased with the outcomes for this part of my project and I loved the slightly fuzzy projections!

For the second part of my project I decided to produce a series of drawings inspired by the Cathedral. At first I started using collage and overlaid imagery from the Cathedral. This ended up being quite limited as it did not inspire me to create anything else. To gain some inspiration I played around with my photographs of my glass projections on Photoshop and produced some rather interesting images! I looked at some Cubist work and that of David Hockney’s to give me some ideas as my projections were quite distorted like their artwork. As a result of this I managed to create some more interesting drawings.
